DESCRIPTION:“Day of the dead\, a celebration of memory and a ritual that privileges remembrance over oblivion.”\nThe Day of the Dead is one of the most deeply rooted Latin traditions. And it is spreading to more and more countries around the world due to the great curiosity and interest it generates. Moreover\, this tradition was considered as Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO since 2003.\nThis year we invite you to enjoy this celebration with us at the Carnegie Theatre. Where we have prepared for you on November 2nd\, artistic events\, traditional music\, in addition to tasting our bread of the dead\, tamales and hot chocolate. DESCRIPTION:GRIEFWAVE is an elegiac response to the life and death of Nikki Reimer’s brother\, Chris Reimer (1986-2012)\, a Calgary-based indie musician. It is also a meditation on the oscillating nature of loss and grief\, and the ways in which mourning changes when it takes place in public\, digital spheres. \nNIKKI REIMER (she/they) is a multimedia artist and writer\, and chronically ill neurodivergent prairie settler currently living in Calgary / Mohkinstsis. She has been involved with art and writing communities\, primarily in Calgary and Vancouver\, for over 20 years. They are the author of three books of poetry and multiple essays on grief. GRIEFWAVE\, a multimedia\, web-based\, extended elegy\, was published in February 2022. Frequent themes are feminism\, the body\, the Anthropocene\, late capitalism\, death\, grief\, loss\, and animal subjectivity. \nThis program is also offered online.
